Daniel 1:2
And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the articles of the house of God, which he [Nebuchadnezzar] carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the articles into the treasure house of his god.
This was a very sad time for Israel. The king of Babylon had stripped what glory was left in Judah away and brought the best of the people into captivity. Not even the things in the house of God were left untouched. If you read Leviticus (it’s not the easiest reading mind you, but very informative and helpful) you can understand that these things (the Table of Showbread, Golden Candlestick, Altar of Incense) were very important in their worship of God. These things are actually symbolic of elements of our worship in Christ and our relationship with Him. Israel had rejected God to the point where He had to bring everything that Israel was into captivity. What used to be symbols of Israel’s glory was a joke to their enemies and a prize to their gods. What this shows to us is that if we need to guard our walk with Christ. Israel never completely rejected in their lives, they just added gods to worship alongside Him but in doing so they rejected Him. When we give ourselves to other things when God rightfully deserves Lordship in us, we reject Him. When we do that we don’t tap into the power of God for our lives and our time with Him, prayer, worship, and other things about our walk will just be mechanical and the world will think it to be a joke. What is it that you need to bring accountable in your life to the Lord? Don’t settle for just doing things the way you have in the past because it’s easiest or because you might be unsure where the Lord might take you. You were designed to follow Him, and He is Good.

1 Corinthians 6:12
“Everything is permissible for me”—but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me”—but I will not be mastered by anything.
This verse is one that really encourages you to be mature in your walk with God. Paul is writing that he realizes a number of things are ok for him to do as a Christian but there are times they are not spiritually appropriate. You might ask what those things are. They may be different for each of us. You need to ask the Holy Spirit to show you when something is not cool to do. If you are doing something and it might not be understood by someone, perhaps you shouldn’t do it. You don’t need to live in fear of doing something that might offend someone but you can be open to the Holy Spirit putting a check in your spirit. The test is whether or not we can walk away from something if the Lord puts that check in our spirit. Are we willing to put our freedom on hold if the Lord asks us to so we can bless someone? I am taking that very challenge today. Will you join me?

Romans 6:12
Do not let sin control the way you live, do not give in to sinful desires.(NLT)
I have it when someone spouts our “Whatever!” Over the years I have seen that kind of attitude when you encourage people to live their life free from sin. It’s not something to take lightly at all. The Bible clearly says we are not to allow sin to control the way we live and we are not to give into sinful desires. At this point you might be saying, “Bill, come on it’s not possible to live life without sinning.” You are right but there is a difference between making mistakes, falling to temptation and living a lifestyle of sin. When we allow sin to control our life and give into our sinful desires we begin to live a lifestyle of sin and that is what the Bible is stalking about here in this passage.
Today, I want you to pray that God will give you the strength to say no to sin. We all have temptations that face us on a regular basis; there is nothing wrong with that. It’s what we do with the temptation right? When temptation comes, tell the devil to hit the road in Jesus name and then ask the Lord for strength to move on. Push the thought right out of your head. The Bible says we are to take each thought captive that is sinful, that is a choice to do that or not. This week make it a goal to not let sin control your life. If you fall get right back up and keep walking.

Hebrews 3:19
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
There is a common thought among believers that if they do something that’s really bad that God can no longer use them. That is not the truth. Believe me, there are consequences for making poor decisions and there will be time that is required to heal that God would have intended to use us to a greater extent. But He is merciful and forgives us the moment we turn to Him, and He gives us grace to go through those consequences. The one thing that God cannot work in someone’s heart is that if they refuse to believe. If someone has rebellion inside of them but they recognize their need and turn to the Lord, they may have some difficulties but God will help them overcome. The only time that Jesus was unable to perform miracles was when the people did not believe He was God. It has nothing to do with God not being capable to work, but He will never work against our will. If there is sin in your life, confess it and embrace God’s path of healing. God can and will use you. But hear me on this, you must guard your heart at any cost against unbelief.

Hebrews 3:19
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
The children of Israel who left Egypt and saw some of the greatest miracles ever witnessed by man are probably the single greatest disappointment recorded in Scripture. You would think that seeing the ten plagues disintegrate the world power of that time so they can be free, watching the Red Sea divide so they can escape safely, and being supernaturally fed and protected in a wilderness would convince someone to follow the Lord. What this shows that miracles don’t change the heart. If a person does not choose to believe for himself, no miracle will change his mind. After not only a continual refusal to believe the Lord, but also a defiant testing of His goodness the Israelites missed out on God’s purpose for their lives and died in their sin. What we must be careful of is that we don’t expect God to perform some great thing or come through in a specific way in order for us to be persuaded to follow Him. The way to follow Him is learning to come to Him on His terms, and that means believing that He is Who He says He is based on Who He has revealed Himself to be in His Word. Ask God to reveal to you, and search in your life what must be changed in you today and learn to die to self and trust Him.

Hebrews 3:3-4
For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.
If you know the story of the children of Israel leaving Egypt and the miracles they experienced in the wilderness you can’t help but think very highly of Moses. I’m sure most everyone has seen the classic The Ten Commandments and thought Charlton Heston pictured what Moses would have been like very well. Outside of David, there is not another Jew who is as highly respected in Israel as Moses. What we need to keep in mind, as today’s passage reveals, is that Moses was just the vessel that God chose to use for His work. God commends Moses for his faithfulness but God truly deserves all the credit. We can learn two things from this. The first being that the same God that used Moses to do a great work fills your heart today through Jesus and wants to work in you. Now He may not use you the same way He used Moses, but His plans are still eternally impacting in which He wants you to take part. What this also reveals is that we can’t take any of the credit. The one instance of Moses being disobedient to God’s calling prohibited him from enjoying the Promised Land. The reason Moses became disobedient was that he simply accepted the thought that he was responsible alongside with God for what God was doing through him and he acted on that thought. No matter how much God uses us we have to keep in mind that it is all Him. Otherwise pride gets in the way and there is no telling what we are capable of when we are led by our pride. I do not say this to get you down, but to let you know of the blessing and warning of being used mightily for the Lord.

Hebrews 2:1
Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.
Why does Jesus put such an emphasis on keeping His Word? He says many times in the Gospels “He that has ears let him hear.” I think what keeps a lot of Christians from walking in His Word is that they see the last part of this verse and believe that they will never measure up to His Word and give up in a sense. Now it’s true that we don’t have it in ourselves to walk in His ways. But if that is all you see in this verse you miss out on the big picture. The last chapter summarizes how Jesus is greater than any angel, power, or anything of creation. This verse was not given to show that we can fail because we already know that. This verse was given to show that He can’t fail if we rely on His ability to help us stay obedient. Later on in this book we will see again that we need to be faithful to Him because He is the One holding onto us. Are you allowing Him to equip you with His mind and relying on Him based on His faithfulness? If not begin with the decision right now and keep pressing forward.

2 Corinthians 5:21
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
I love this verse. God invites all of us to become friends with Him. He isn’t waiting on you; this verse says He’s already a friend with you. I love the fact even though I don’t totally understand it that he put the WRONG on Him so we could be right with Him. Maybe you are asking what wrong did He take? He took the punishment for our sins that we needed to pay for and He took the punishment for us. Because of our wrong doings like lying, cheating, stealing, gossip etc…we were going to be punished with death. Jesus decided to pay for that punishment with his own life. Now that is a true friend amen? So how do we become a friend to God? Spend time with Him in prayer, Bible reading and yes reading his Word. How many close friends do you have that you never talk to or spend time with just hanging out? The answer would be none, because if you didn’t spend time talking to them and hanging with them, they would never be a close friend. Praise God we have a friend who loves us enough to do what it takes to pay the price for our sins!

Genesis 12:1,2
The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your Father’s household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great and you will be a blessing.”
What’s holding you back? Are you suppose to be going to school, or are you suppose to be going to Mercy Ministries? Maybe God is leading you to an Intern program with Teen Mania, or maybe you are called to be in the military or a fulltime ministry. Maybe God wants you to be a fulltime Mom – what is it that you are suppose to be doing that you are putting off. Don’t miss out on what God has in store for your life by hanging on to what is comfortable or familiar. God told Abram to go and he obeyed and God blessed him greatly! There is blessing in obedience. Are you listening to what God has been trying to tell you or are you so set on doing what you want that you are missing what He is saying? I keep getting spam in my e-mail and I laugh every time I get the one for hearing aids and the name of the company is Select Hearing, I think too many of us already suffer from having selective hearing. We only hear what we want to hear and choose those things that won’t make our lives uncomfortable. I would challenge you today to figure out what it is that you are suppose to be doing and get moving! Is it easy? Not always. BUT if you obey and trust God that He is doing what is best for your life, you have nothing to lose! If you are doing what you are suppose to do and you are where you are suppose to be then hang on to this verse as encouragement that God has blessings in store for you if you just keep pressing forward. If God is calling for a new season or change in your life then allow him to put you where He has great opportunities for you to do great things!

Matthew 7:15-16
Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Just because someone has a nice hairstyle, wearing the last fashion and has a million dollar smile doesn’t mean they are telling you the truth about Jesus. What do I mean about this? We will all come across false teachers but how will we spot them? If we are in the Word of God on a regular basis no one can fool us. I have sat under preachers that have asked me to challenge them on their teaching. They want me to catch them making a mistake. They are not trying to lie to me about the Bible but want to make sure I know the Scriptures and can spot anything that might be wrong in their sermon. However, there are many out there bending the Scriptures to fit their own view on God. With a million dollar smile and wonderful charisma it sounds really good. I have met a few folks through the years who really sounded good at first but when I dug deeper there were things that just were not right. If we study the Word of God on a regular basis we’ll be able to catch those who are false preachers and teachers. Not everyone talking about heaven is going.
